Our History

Bent Tree Country Club was founded in 1972 by former Dallas Mayor; Robert S. Folsom who hired Golf Course Architect Desmond Muirhead to design the golf course on 200 acres of what was then cotton fields and pasture land.  In the 1800’s these lands were traveled as part of the Shawnee Trail which is now Preston Road.

Through the years Bent Tree Country Club has been the proud host of the LPGA Mary Kay Classic with winning champions Nancy Lopez, Jan Stephenson, Sandra Spuziak and Jerilyn Britz and the PGA Seniors Reunion Tournaments with champions Peter Thompson, Don January, Chi Chi Rodriguez and Orville Moody.  The Club also hosted the Silver Pro-Am of the Byron Nelson, as well as amateur events including the Texas Women’s Open, Men’s Texas Mid-Amateur and the U.S. Open Qualifying.

Our Club’s Golf operation has garnered many awards and honors under the direction of David Price, Head Professional for 27 years.  David is a renowned Professional who has served and co-chaired rules officials for all the major tournaments held in the U.S. and abroad.  Among his various awards and recognition s, David has been the Professional of the Year by the PGA of America, holds the honor of being a member of the PGA Golf Hall of Fame and a recent inductee into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame.  Our golf operation has also graduated 17 golf professionals under his tutelage.

Not far from the success of golf, is the tennis operation at Bent Tree Country Club under the direction of Craig Bell who has served the club since 1997.   Craig is also very well known in the tennis industry as he has been the recipient as the Dallas Professional Pro of the Year and the USPTA Texas Professional of the Year (on two separate occassions).  Craig is a USPTA Master Professional and is one of only 180 tennis professionals to ever receive this coveted designation.  This top class operation has hosted tennis professionals Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Arthur Ashe, Dennis Ralston, Dick Stockton, Luke and Murphy Jensen, Sam Querry and Mark Knowles.  Our indoor tennis courts have a unique presence in the city of Dallas and are a popular venue for our members and guests.

Early in its development, Bent Tree Country Club was envisioned not only as an exclusive family-oriented club, but also one that would attract the business and community leaders of Dallas as members.  That vision has come true.  Bent Tree can boast of chairman and presidents from many of the Fortune 500 businesses, athletic figures from football to golfing greats, among several of the past mayors of Dallas and many others that make up the tapestry of the Bent Tree membership.
